RE: FT Questions.... - thethinker48 - 04-14-2017 Any of you guys try grape juice as your post workout carb source? I find downing a liter of grape juice rather easy, gives 160 grams of carbs post workout easily without any digestive issues. Then another 100 carbs rice 5oz chicken post meal with a casin 35g and berries, dextrose 50g ( instant pudding mix sugar free) i haven't done this combo without slin yet. Do u? (I just don't want the liability there. YEs, it can be used safely and I know of several folks - two good friends of a friend of mine who had been in the game for decades each - who died in their kitchen after insulin mistakes. What do I think about what specifically?... <I'm on my soapbox here for a moment> You post that question on most boards (or FB) and you'll get guys saying "you're good to go" or "you need more slin" or "I'd use fish instead of chicken breast" or what have you. The most important aspect of that post-workout protocol is where it fits in your goals and whether your moving towards them. If you're trying to gain size and doing so, then I'd not change anything. If you're not making headway, and you're still hungry / able to fit in more food during that period, then that's a place to add more food, IMO. Asking about individual meals without a greater context is like asking, "Is this a good tire?..." When I was younger and frantically searching for answers, I'd see posts by extremely experienced vets saying "It depends", and it would piss me off to no end because I wanted one concrete answer. I find myself saying the same thing to someone if they ask me a question nowadays. The more I learn, the more I realize how little I actually know, and how the search for some of these answers is a life long process which probably won't be fulfilled. Now excuse while I go on a tangent researching some obscure enzyme and wasting a few hours if my Saturday [emoji41] Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk RE: FT Questions.... - Scott Stevenson - 04-16-2017 (04-16-2017, 12:44 AM)Powerof2 Wrote: lol I got u sir. WE're talking about ~300g carbs pre-intra-post-workout, right?... This is a cinch, man. You body will be able to dispose of that carbohydrate without an issue. The thing of note is that insulin is increasing glycogen storage in all cells, including fat cells. Normally, de novo lipogenesis isn't an issue unless someone's been pounding carbs for days. (This is probably highly variable and when someone is contest lean, might happen more readily than otherwise.) The magic of insulin is, I suspect, inhibiting protein breakdown and even enhancing protein synthesis [which it can do in the presence of essential amino acids and as long as blood flow is increased (small details the science bears out)]. So, your body will handle the carbs, and insulin would help with the disposal of course, but insulin's magic peri-post-workout is a matter of enhancing protein metabolism, which is why taking in carbs (with protein) to elicit an insulin response makes sense. -S FT Questions.... - Powerof2 - 04-17-2017 (04-16-2017, 10:14 PM)Scott Stevenson Wrote: Right on...
