I was wondering if pause squats could be a decent alternative for a thigh loading movement?
I know all reps are supposed to be continuous, but my understanding is that the continuous reps are so we don't go crazy destroying our recovery with heavy sets taking 4 breaths between each rep lol, and to keep everything about the set as consistent as possible to best track improvements. Pause squats (pausing in the bottom) wouldn't really counter either of these objectives.
I ask because it would let me really focus on keeping the load through my legs, and avoid falling into the habit of purely smashing the weight up (powerlifting background makes it really hard not to fall into old patterns when trying to beat prs lol). And it would keep lower total load to keep me from getting quite as beat up.
Just want to make sure I'm not missing something - would this be an ok alternative?
Totally cool, man! As long as those pauses doesn't end up as mini-rest periods (sitting on a bench / box), you're good to go.
