Vertical Leg Press positioning

I've done vertical leg press' on the smith in the past FT tiers, but am not sure if my positioning is correct- as my back tends to get tight- does anyone have any advice as to how far up/down I should be positioned and/or foot stance (wide/narrow toes out/neutral)

Thanks!

Are you lying on a bench or on the floor?

Is your smith perfectly vertical (perpendicular to the floor) or is there an angle.

How you position your self will shift the emphasis from quad vs. posterior chain (butt further under the bar / bar more towards your head).

I personally like to have the feet at a medium / wide stance with a bit of external rotation so my thighs clear my torso at the bottom of the ROM.

On the smith doing a vertical leg press, depending on your machine, you're going to be limited somewhat as far as this positioning goes depending on how easily you can re-rack the bar. Get into the wrong position and you may have trouble getting the bar to roll enough. (This will also depend on which way the bar has to roll to lock and unlock.)
