David Henry
David Henry finished 3rd at the Arnolds, I would like to open a discussion about David using FT at the top tier of bodybuilding and other BB's experience of competing after using FT in the run up to a show.

Great Topic!!!

So, we've got a few folks who use FT.

Dave Henry

Jordan Peters

Paul Scarborough (who attributes gains before his last show to this, although he didn't use FT when filming for his video series leading to this.)

(Me, of course.)

I was at my best at the 2013 Master's Nats, I think, after I'd been on FT (as it was under development). IN 2014, I had a strange injury (I've written about this on EliteFTS) that kept me from a proper off-season, so I came in too light. (Live n' Learn)

Here are some Testimonials (some from competitors): Fortitude Training Testimonials - Integrative Bodybuilding - Home of Fortitude Training

(Melissa Tucker used FT en route to her Pro card. Kelly V used FT off-season and to diet down for his last show.)

I can go into Dave's path with FT if folks like, but I'd rather hear new stories, too. Smile

What would you say was Dave Henry's biggest improvement from his DC days to his FT days?

I have a question about you taking on new guys who aren't nessasarily used to your methods. I would imagine most guys who come to you come specifically because they know your training style and want help with it. Have you had guys come to you who do the normal once a week thing looking to completely rehaul training? How hard is it for them to transition and really " trust the process"

Well, he was his heaviest at this ASC (with this level of conditioning) and his legs WERE improved.

The short n' sweet of this is this:

Dave turned Pro and gained a good bit of weight.

DC added even more muscle to Dave.

About the time I moved from AZ, I was developing FT and Dave and I couldn't train together. He started doing a prototype of FT (something I asked him and a friend to do) that was working for him. I didn't really even recall what it was (he sent it to me later).

During much of the last 2 years, Dave would just check-in periodically, sometimes at the beginning, sometimes at the end of a Prep.

At the tail end of 2014, Dave came to FL and I showed him the ropes with FT. He started doing the real program there (and made some improvements), too, but was running his own show.

After the O last year, we did (for the 1st time actually) regular, legit check-in's, etc. as I would with a normal client. It was awesome and he was very happy. I have ideas for making him even better for the O, now that we've got a groove going.

If they come to me for that reason, it's never been hard to get them on the same page. There are some who have resisted just a bit at the start, but not any major problems.

If someone likes their current training style, I just go with it, esp. if they're just coming to me for prep / to start dieting.

I hope Dave's success helps gets the word out about FT. The system truly deserves to be known to anyone that is serious about bodybuilding.

RE: David Henry
Thought Dave looked great. Congrats to you and him Scott. Great work!!

I watched his training video a few weeks out before the Arnold Classic, he was doing a depletion workout, which looked like a total body training session of MRs and (possibly supersetted) with straight sets. The whole thing, and the idea of it looks like hell, but effective Is this typically something you do to just totally deplete someone before loading? Drop the loading / pump sets, and just do this for a week? Just curious, or is this knowledge part of "Scott's Secret Sauce" to get you on stage your best. No worried if it is Smile

I honestly thought Dave was the most impressive out of every 212 competitor, conditioning-wise and even thought his shape flowed the best.

Also, I've been following Jordan Peters now for a little while and holy sh*t!! That dude is a freak LOL. Crazy strong and a crazy amount of mass on his frame

Thanks, Brutha! Dave and his wife were very happy with how he looked.

This is part of the Secret sauce, yes. Smile

An it is brutal, for sure.

I basically have folk do three whole body work-out in a row with now carbs during the period. The workouts are FT-based and not high volume per se, but the total volume (without carbs), in an already somewhat depleted state (d/t the dieting process - this will vary depending on a persons diet as the go into the show), works really well to create a super compensatory effect.

I trialled this years ago myself when using FT to diet down. I have done literally hundreds of peak week mock / practice and actual runs before shows over the years to fine tune my system (not to mention those with clients). This was a way to "dance with the one who brung ya" in terms of training and also create a reasonable depletion / super compensatory effect.

I found that I had to increase my carbs when loading by > 500g compare to my DC training days, in part b/c of the nature of the FT training I think (impact upon glycogen levels and glycogen storage capability) and the depletion protocol itself, too. All in all, it works pretty well.

That is what Peter McGough said online - he had Dave winning. Dave was also approached by TWO high level coaches, a top promotor and a top MC (all of these folks are household names int he BB'ing industry) who had Dave winning too, which made Dave happy.
